NBA’s TV Schedule

December 21, 2007

We are a little over a quarter of the way through the NBA season. The biggest issue with the season so far has been the lack of games worth watching on TV. Luckily, it looks like things are starting to change.

So far, the season has been plagued by “Houston vs. Denver” or “Houston vs San Antonio” night after night (honestly, there was a week stretch where they only played Rockets games. The team isn’t that good). The league also missed out on the biggest no-brainer game of the year (Houston vs. Milwaukee – even though it would have meant another Houston game, the Yao vs. Yi factor would have brought a crowd). Through the first twenty games, I hadn’t watched a single minute of basketball.

This past week, a lot has changed. Yes, the schedule had three “no-brainer” games to air (Celts vs. Pistons, Mavs vs. Suns, and last night’s Cavs vs. Lakers). I took the time to watch at least part of each game (the most entertaining was the Mavs vs. Suns, but the end of the Celts vs. Pistons was pretty good). In addition to all of this, I stumbled upon a program on ESPN entitled “NBA Coast-to-Coast.”

Now this is what I’m talking about. NBA Coast-to-Coast is reminiscent of the older TNT broadcasts. Airing on Tuesday nights, it gives you information on the nights games, shows highlights, and offers live look-ins of games. The last part is what the NBA needs more of. You get to watch the game unfold, then if it is a blowout or if it gets dull, they send it back to the studio or onto another game.

Honestly, if you like watching basketball on TV, you have to watch NBA Coast-to-Coast.
