It is entitled, “When Good Actors Do Bad Accents.”
The list goes on to include the likes of Kevin Costner, Heather Graham, and Christopher Lambert.
Now, I like Fortress as much as anyone else (most of you have probably never heard of it), but come on. You can’t honestly classify these people as “Good Actors.”

What a poor beginning to the month of December. This blog will have to step it up over the next 28 days.

I agree that the blog will have to step it up, but disagree about these people not being classified as “Good Actors.” I could probably make an argument for everyone of the people on this list, with the exception of Heather Graham. But even she was damned good in Boogie Nights and Scrubs.
Christopher Lambert in Highlander talked in his regular voice. If you want to complain that he should have had an Irish accent then thats fine. But you can’t say that his regular voice is a bad accent.
John Wayne acted in a different time period, where acting wasn’t quite what it is today. But his movies were almost always fun, and I think that he was a decent actor.
Brad Pitt has had several movies that I liked quite a bit, and I would probably consider him a decent actor too. Fight Club, River Runs Through It.
The cast of Bram Stoker’s Dracula? That was just a horror movie that tried too hard. But it did have a decent performance by Gary Oldman.
Val Kilmer? C’mon. I shouldn’t even have to argue this one.
And KCos was in For Love of the Game, Bull Durham, Robin Hood. And whats with the complaint about BAdams? Is it really wise to end an argument for why Costner had a bad accent with a complaint about a song from the movie?
Where do you even find this stuff, Mike?

Dude, when you get a chance you need to head on over to funnyordie.com and check out the High Five videos. If I were you I would watch the original one first, but then check out the Hollywood version. They got some real star power in that thing, and you have to appreciate that.

I started to read the comments on the blog and an argument ensued over Christian Bale’s accent in “The Prestige.” Someone said it was horrible and everyone else was like “That’s his REAL voice, moron.” Made me laugh because Christian Bale’s American accent is so good that a lot of people don’t realize he’s British.
And I agree with Mikey–these people are hardly “good” actors.
Keanu Reeves??? Keanu Reeves???

What’s wrong with Keanu Reeves? Like every other ator working today, he has made some bad movies along with his good ones. He wasn’t great in Dracula, but who was? (other than Gary Oldman)
Reeves has starred in two classic movies, a movie that redefined the action genre, a football movie that should have gone straight to DVD but turned out to be one of the better sports films around, a cop movie in which he shoots his gun into the air and yells “AHHH,” and Constantine, which I liked.
I don’t understand the Reeves hatred.
You know what, this article could go completely in the other direction too. What about actors who are too good with accents? Johnny Depp–though I like most of his movies, I have absolutely no idea what the man is actually like. I hate reading interviews with Depp because I can’t hear a distinguishing voice coming out of the interview. I can’t picture Johnny Depp saying anything unless he is in character, so interviews with him always end up boring and I am thoroughly convinced that the man has lost all track of who he really is. I just can’t understand how a person could do so many roles, and not ever really put a piece of himself into any of them. And I like Depp, but that drives me crazy.
(This all derives from an interview I read with him in EW a while back, in that same issue there was an interview with Denzel and Russell Crowe. For the American Gangsta interview I could completely see and hear each of these men answering their questions, but for the Depp interview I was completely bored, lost track of what he was saying, and almost immediately forgot what the hell that interview was about. And I think its because he has no distinctive voice. And there is a problem with that, in my opinion)

Chris, you just haven’t seen any movies with Depp using his real voice. “Nick of Time” is a decent one. Also has Christopher Walken in it. It’s kind of old though. I guess it’s been a really long time since Depp has used his read voice.
And Keanu is just terrible. I enjoyed “Constantine,” “Dracula,” and “The Lake House” but that was IN SPITE of Reeves. He’s just so wooden, so not interesting.
But I’d rather watch a movie with him as the lead role than a Ben Affleck movie! Affleck is like if your cousin started acting and you were all excited for him because he’s doing the dream, but in your heart you know he’s really not any good and you kind of wince when he tries too hard.

Check out my (and may I say) much better list, “The Worst Accents in Film History” at my blog Videoport Jones.
