Walking out of Movies

If you know me, you know that I have never walked out of a movie (if I rent a DVD, I have stopped it before the end before. It’s not as big of a deal). With that in mind, I have to tell you that I left The Wendell Baker Story before it reached its conclusion. Was it really that bad?

Nope. I actually was getting into the flick. Luke Wilson had a few funny lines. The story kind of reminded me of an unpolished Bottle Rocket. Definitely a good thing. So, why did I leave?

About 30 to 45 minutes into the film, the film stopped. According to the theater, there was a problem with the platter that the film was on.

We waited for 10 mintues for the film to start up. Then they said the problem was more complicated than they anticipated, so it would be another 15 minutes.

After those 15 minutes were over, the film started again. One minute later the film was down. At this time the theater offered a free pass to come back at a later date.

I like getting the free pass, but I knew that it would mean that I wouldn’t be able to see the entirity of the Wendell Baker Story until it comes out on DVD. Which is a bit upsetting because no one knows when the DVD will come out.

Over the weekend, there were a couple of times where I remembered a bit of the movie and thought, “oh, I should finish that when I get home.” Then I’d realize that it wasn’t on TV or DVD, it was at the theater. Which upset me quite a bit.

The weird thing is, this is the second time this year that I’ve had to leave a movie early due to technical problems (see: Ratatouille). Before this year, I honestly can’t think of a time where I had to leave due to technical problems. Was I just lucky before, or have I been unlucky this year?

Anyway, from what I saw of The Wendell Baker Story, it is worth a rental.

According to Netflix, The Wendell Baker Story comes out on DVD in October. So, at least that’s not too long of a wait.
